Research Statement
I continue to develop theory and data relating to the use and threat of force within international politics. My OVERT MILITARY INTERVENTION dataset, a systematic compendium of information regarding instances of blatant military action by states within foreign lands, is employed by other scholars as well as by governmental and intergovernmental organizations; that dataset is in process of being updated. Tillema also studies international phenomena associated with terrorism.
I have collaborative projects with the faculty of Nuclear Engineering. I enjoy a joint faculty appointment within the University of Missouri Nuclear Science and Engineering Institute
My teaching has included a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses in international politics as well as participation within the Nuclear Engineering course that addresses terrorism and counter-terrorism.
