PhD students in our program are funded by the department in the form of teaching and research assistantships.  Graduate students are paired with faculty members with similar research interests, so promising research assistantships often evolve into full-fledged co-authored projects.  Teaching assistant duties vary according to the class, sometimes involving mostly grading while other times involving leading discussion sections. Advanced graduate students are allowed to take the reins and teach their own independent courses.

Mizzou offers a competitive stipend of $18,000 per academic year, renewable for up to five years. Funded students receive a full tuition waiver and a health insurance subsidy. Paired with Columbia's low cost of living, most graduate students in our program find they can manage on this budget without needing to take out extensive student loans or secure additional employment.
