Political Science Minor

Requirements:

To earn a minor in Political Science, you must complete at least 15 hours of Political Science courses.

--Pol Sc 1100: American Government (or transferable equivalent) is required

--At least 6 hours must be taken at the 4000-level

  • Note: Pol Sc 4940, Pol Sc 4985, and Pol Sc 4986 will not count as 4000-level

--At least 9 hours must be taken at MU

Once you have received confirmation of your minor declaration, you can access your progress toward your minor by running a degree audit. Strategic Studies Minor

The minor in Strategic Studies affords a unique opportunity to gain a broad perspective on security issues, allowing focus on areas where a student may have additional educational requirements not offered in their chosen major field of study.

The minor is appropriate for students of almost any major, particularly political science, economics, history, geography, journalism, and engineering.

The program is also well suited for students in Army, Navy, or Air Force ROTC, providing a solid background for officers encountering the changing strategic environment of the twenty-first century.

Requirements:

Fifteen (15) credits are required for the minor in strategic studies, selected from the following:

  • POL SC 4410: Politics and War
  • POL SC 4411: Genocide, Terrorism, and Civil War
  • POL SC 4412: Strategy and Warfare
  • POL SC 4413: Politics of Cyber-Security
  • POL SC 4415: Peacekeeping and Intervention
  • POL SC 4430: Global Human Rights
  • POL SC 4540: American Foreign Policies
  • POL SC 4680: Chinese Politics and Foreign Policy
  • POL SC 4690: North and South Korea
  • POL SC 4700: America's Wars in Asia/War and Peace in Asia
  • MIL SC 3163: U.S Military History in the Western Tradition
  • HIST 4080: American Foreign Policy from Colonial Times to 1898
  • HIST 4250: U.S. Foreign Relations, 1898-1945
  • HIST 4260: The Age of Ascendancy: U.S. Foreign Relations, 1945 – Present
  • GEOG 4130: The Geospatial Sciences in National Security
  • GEOG 4200: Geopolitics

Of these, at least six (6) hours must be from political science courses and at least three (3) hours must be in another subject. Students in the minor must maintain a B average (3.0 GPA) for courses in the minor.
